About The Role

As a Mechanical Specialist (VCON) at Axiom Builders, you will play a crucial role in our projects from early design through to construction completion. This role is perfect for someone who loves the real estate industry and wants to be in a position with a bird's eye view of our projects. Unlike consulting, which can be restrictive, this position offers a dynamic and fast-paced environment where you can work on multiple projects simultaneously without being tied down to long-term assignments. You’ll get to work closely with trades and site teams, gaining experience that you won’t find elsewhere. The variety of engineering styles and projects means there’s always something new to learn, making this role ideal for anyone passionate about engineering.

Key Responsibilities

  • Review mechanical and electrical designs in the pre-construction phase from early design to issued-for-construction milestones;
  • Collaborate with the design team to understand project needs and goals, providing input to optimize coordination strategies and virtual construction workflows;
  • Review design documents, models, and drawings independently to identify and resolve conflicts, clashes, or coordination issues, ensuring compliance with standards;
  • Coordinate HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection requirements with other disciplines, working with site teams to ensure designs align with construction standards and local codes;
  • Conduct site visits to assess work quality and track critical items.

What You Bring

You are a detail-oriented and adaptable professional with a strong background in mechanical systems. Your passion for high-quality construction outcomes and your excellent communication skills make you a valuable team player. You thrive in a fast-paced environment, enjoy working on multiple projects simultaneously, and relish the challenge of turning obstacles into opportunities. Your open-minded and resilient nature allows you to effectively contribute to building our organization’s capacity.

Skills and Experience

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience working on residential and mixed-use concrete high-rise projects as part of an MEP design team or mechanical trade;
  • Understanding of electrical design will be considered an asset;
  • Certificate, diploma, or degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology, Mechanical Systems, or a related field;
  • Understanding of codes and regulations (BC Energy Step Code, ASHRAE, NFPA, BCBC, BCPC);
  • Proficient with REVIT, AutoCAD, MS Office suite, Bluebeam, and Revizto with experience in the coordination process and 3D modeling programs;
  • Strong communication skills with the confidence and ability to communicate with both internal and external stakeholders at all levels.
