About the Role

Reporting to the Senior Vice President, the Director, Construction will manage all aspects of the assigned project portfolio from beginning to end.  In addition to successfully leading and motivating multiple project teams, this role will play a significant role in maintaining and strengthening strong client relationships. The successful candidate will not only promote project community vision and design, but also elevate Axiom’s industry presence and market awareness.   


Key Responsibilities include:

  • Partner closely with developers, project managers, consultant engineers, utility providers and local authorities to ensure the quality of the project, the completion on time and within budget;
  • Oversee the requisition process of all division work from inception to contract;
  • Provide timely feedback to project team on design elements and details to allow for prompt and decisive decision making during the design phase;
  • Collaborate with estimating to provide preliminary budget information from conceptual stage and see it through the process to a fixed budget;
  • Evaluate the progress of construction through regular review and site visits with Senior PMs and project teams;
  • Monitor production schedules, critical paths for projects, and cost control to ensure that projects are completed on time, meet expected quality and within budget;
  • Respond to any issues that arise and provide guidance to ensure these are resolved and quality standards are consistently maintained;
  • Build strong relationships with customers and key vendors earning their respect, while at the same time treating them as customers/partners and protecting the Company’s interests;
  • Attend and actively participate in daily, weekly and monthly meetings with staff and senior management to facilitate the flow of information between all parties to ensure client satisfaction and the timely completion of construction projects;
  • Facilitate regular flow of communication from site to Head Office to share knowledge, best practices, and ensure a common approach.

You are people oriented with the ability to naturally build long-term partnerships and trust with the client.  You have experience with growing organizations and are resilient in ever-changing, entrepreneurial environments.


Our Must Haves

  • Roughly 10-15 years of preconstruction and project management experience as part of a general contractor (a comprehensive project list submitted as part of your resume will be helpful);
    • Multi-phase developments, wood-frame, master planned communities and high-rise concrete experience will be considered major assets;
  • At least three (3) years of experience managing/supervising a project team of varying levels of experience to work cohesively for our clients;
  • Ability to promote a culture and collective goal of client satisfaction with the team;
  • Proven record and ability to execute exceptional work on time and within budget;
  • A strong personal network of construction and trade professionals - ability to leverage these relationships to deliver quality and excellence to the client;
  • Professional communication skills - both oral and written, with the ability to manage conflict effectively and deal with challenging conversations with ease.
